But every racer must watch the full briefing before the race - it contains vital details for the successful completion of your adventure.
Racer rules
The race rules have been posted at the Wildlands website:
https://www.wildlandsar.com/race-rules.html
Please read them and review them as a team. If you have any questions, email us at StrongMachineAR@gmail.com
Waivers
All participants have already signed the U.S. Adventure Racing Association racer waiver (this was a requirement of registering for the race via RunSignUp). But if you haven't yet completed our boating waiver from The Activity Shop, which was also available via our registration process on RunSignUp but not required, please fill it out here, as you will not be allowed to get into a boat during the race unless you've filled it out:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfECLwAsPH4rsxE3YGrCbRjvtOtfA6ByoYYFXdy5UfuqLYSbQ/viewform
COVID attestation
Prior to race day, please remember to review our COVID protocols. We are also requiring all teammates to read and sign our COVID Protocol Confirmation document to affirm your understanding and commitment to following our safety protocols. Please sign this document before your race day and contact us with any questions before then.
Mandatory gear
Please review the gear list here:
https://www.wildlandsar.com/gear-list.html
It is required that you carry all mandatory gear at all times (for the appropriate segments of the race). We reserve the right to check for mandatory gear items at any time during the race and teams found to be lacking mandatory gear will be penalized! We will provide paddle gear (double-bladed kayak paddles and PFDs) but you are welcome to use your own equipment if you prefer, though you must use the provided boats. Note that all personal paddle gear must be contained within a bag with your team name clearly marked on it. We are not responsible for lost gear that is not sufficiently bundled together. You will not need to carry your paddling gear on other stages of the race.
Start location and parking
Registration will be located outside of the Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery building at 306 Hatchery Rd in East Orland, Maine. Parking is available in front of and around the building - we will have volunteers helping people to get parked. Race check-in will begin at 6 a.m..for the 8-hour races and 9:30 a.m. for the 3-hour races.
Weather update
The current forecast for the weekend is for lows in the low-40's and highs in the low 60's Farenheit, with light winds. Chance of rain is now low, but you never know, so come ready to get wet. And foliage is going to be right at peak.
Water at race start
Please plan on bringing your own water supply to start the race with you. We will have limited supply available (and nearby Alamoosook Lake from which you can purify) at the start, but arriving at the race with your own water will save a lot of time and hassle for everyone involved. We will have coolers of fresh water ready for you when you arrive to every transition area, so don't worry if you need more on course. And thanks to a generous donation from OutThere owner (and Eco-Challenge legend) Mike Kloser, we will have 20 Zenix water purification kits available for teams for free on a first-come, first-served basis at the opening of registration on both Saturday and Sunday.
One cabin left!
If anyone is desperately looking for a place to stay on race weekend, we have one cabin left at Twin Hills Cottages of Acadia. Email us at StrongMachineAR@gmail.com for more info.
We can't wait to see you all next weekend. Get ready for a fantastic day of fun!
