wILDLANDS ADVENTURE CHALLENGE: RACE RULES
- Competitors must always remain within 100 feet of teammates and within visual contact.
- Checkpoints must be visited by the entire team - no rabbits!
- At TAs, teams must check in and out with the volunteer. Do not leave the TA until you have been given the OK by the volunteer.
- If one member must leave the course, they must do so at TA and notify race management (unless in case of emergency). Incomplete teams may continue unranked with permission from race staff.
- Any team withdrawing from the race must notify a “live” person by checking in with a TA volunteer or by calling the race director.
- Teams that miss CPs will be ranked after teams that obtain all CPs. In the case of a tie, the team who obtained the most points in the shortest period of time ranks ahead of teams taking more time.
- Any short-course team (teams that do not check in at all TAs) will rank lower than full course teams, regardless of number of CPs attained.
- Teams must complete each stage of the race in the order listed unless directed otherwise by course instructions. CPs can be obtained in any order within each stage.
- Racers must use the mode of travel required as outlined in the course instructions.
- Mandatory gear must be carried at all times and will be checked on the course.
- PFDs must be worn at all times while paddling. Kayaks must be carried, not dragged, when portaging. Get off the water if you see lightning.
- Bicycle helmets must be worn at all times during biking sections and when specifically directed by race officials. Rear flashing lights must be used at all times during biking sections.
- Teams must write the CP codeword in the correct space on their passports. All writing must be legible. If race staff cannot distinguish read your writing, you will not receive credit for the CP.
- Race cutoff is 4:00 p.m., plus the number of minutes indicated by your start wave. Teams will lose 1 CP for being late and an additional CP for each 5 minutes late.
- Race officials reserve the right to alter time cut-offs or the course itself to accommodate changing conditions.
- No GPS of any kind, including GPS pace counters, are allowed.
- NO LITTERING! Leave no trace!
- Use of cellular phone is for emergencies only. No other use is allowed.
- Any protest must be filed in writing within one hour of the team’s finish and will be reviewed by the Race Committee.
Penalty for each rule infraction is the loss of a minimum of 1 CP. Other penalties may apply at the discretion of the race directors.
