Are you ready for a day of adventure in the beautiful Maine wilderness?
The Wildlands Adventure Challenge promises to deliver a fun adventure in and around the beautiful East Orland, Maine area, an adventurer's paradise, with diverse terrain ranging from thick pine forests to deep cold lakes and rivers to graded gravel roads and some challenging singletrack.
For 2022, the challenge will feature a beginner's race geared toward those new to adventure racing and families, involving hiking, navigation using map and compass, and special challenges. If you've ever wanted to try adventure racing but were intimidated - this is the perfect introductory race for you! Kids of all ages are welcome!
Racers looking for more of a challenge can take on the 8-hour race, which will include hiking/running and biking sections. There will be optional mountain biking, but no paddling this year. Navigational challenges will range from intermediate to advanced, with many optional points to suit all racers.

Beginner/Family challenge course information
- Estimated minimum distances are 1 mile on foot, with many optional points to allow racers to add as much distance as they want, up to 4 miles of hiking.
- There will be no biking or paddling in this race
8-Hour race course information
- Estimated minimum distances are 5 miles on foot and 20 miles of biking (on trails and roads). Optional points will add significant distance to each discipline in the race, reaching about 40 miles in total length.
- Mountain bikes are highly recommended for reaching optional points; however, bikes that are capable of riding on rugged dirt roads are acceptable for minimum course requirements.
