GENERAL INFORMATION

Are you ready for a day of adventure in the beautiful Maine wilderness?

The Wildlands Adventure Challenge promises to deliver a fun adventure in and around the beautiful East Orland, Maine area, an adventurer's paradise, with diverse terrain ranging from thick pine forests to deep cold lakes and rivers to graded gravel roads and some challenging singletrack. 


For 2021, the challenge will feature a beginner's race geared toward those new to adventure racing and families, combining hiking and paddling. If you've ever wanted to try adventure racing but were intimidated - this is the perfect introductory race for you!

Racers looking for more of a challenge can take on the 8-hour race, which will include hiking/running, paddling, and mountain biking sections. Navigational challenges will range from intermediate to advanced, with many optional points to suit all racers.

Beginner/Family challenge course information

  • **Information from 2020, not yet updated for 2021**
  • Estimated minimum distances are 1 mile on foot and 1 mile of paddling, with many optional points to allow racers to add as much distance as they want, up to 5 miles of hiking and 4 miles of paddling.
  • There will be no biking in this race
  • Race starts at 11 a.m. with all teams finishing by 2 p.m.
  • This race will run on Saturday and Sunday with results tabulated across both days.

8-Hour race course information ​

  • Estimated minimum distances are  3 miles on foot, 15 miles of mountain biking (on trails and roads), and 2 miles of paddling. Optional points will add significant distance to each discipline in the race, reaching about 40 miles in total length.
  • Mountain bikes are highly recommended for reaching optional points; however, bikes that are capable of riding on rugged dirt roads are acceptable for minimum course requirements.
  • Race starts at 8 a.m. with all teams finishing by 4 p.m.
  • This race will run on Saturday and Sunday with results tabulated across both days.
